IEI Spring Fundraiser: Coming together for quality education in Pakistan

Karachi; On June 9, 2022, IEI Pakistan hosted its first ever fundraiser event in Karachi in collaboration with District 19. Our friends, supporters, and the artist community in Karachi gathered on Thursday night to celebrate IEI Pakistan’s work at the event, purposely kept open to the public to increase awareness about education accessibility challenges in remote mountain communities in the Gilgit Baltistan region.
We started the night with the screening of our latest documentary, “The Voices of Karakoram,” an IEI film by Umaima Soomro. This is the third documentary film produced to showcase IEI’s work (2017: Into the valley by Hamza, 2019: 3100 meters above sea level by Marvi Soomro). This documentary film showcased one of our key initiatives, IEI Libraries.
The audience learned about how it all started, the libraries that we have built in three communities, and the impact these libraries continue to create. It also gave the audience the opportunity to take a closer look at the challenges that isolated mountain communities face both in terms of accessibility to quality learning experiences as well as their lifestyle.
The documentary took the attendees on a journey of determination, passion, and hope, which was evident from the feedback that we received when many viewers came up to us to express appreciation and register their interest in helping us as volunteers.
Following the documentary screening, a musical night was hosted, featuring star performers like Maria Unera, Aisha Ijlal, Pakar Dhakar, Asadu, Nafz, Jabeen Rehmani, and KHM. We are grateful to the musicians for supporting the cause and volunteering to perform at our fundraiser. The event was joined by a 110 people making the night a success.
Our gratitude extends to the team at District 19, especially Rebecca Williams, for their support throughout the event planning and execution stages. We look forward to many such events and opportunities to engage with people across Pakistan who are interested in supporting our work. Stay tuned for many more in the future!
