Willow Tree – IEI Libraries

By - Karimai Hunzai & Shaggy Brone / Team Story

Willow Tree IEI Libraries are designed and executed by Architect Shagy Brone & Artist Karimie Hunzai, using very limited material and resources, the libraries focus at re-using old junk furniture and material found in the natural environment in these communities. Thus sparking innovation and creativity both in the process and the outcome. From designing the spaces to hands-on labour to make the design a reality, everything is done during the program.
Since the start of our Volunteer Programs last year we’ve set up two functional Libraries in Upper Gojal region, in Misgar & then Kirmin, Chipursan.
These are All-Inclusive spaces and them to be awe-inspiring each Library is experimental & finished with Installation Art by the Willow tree – Environmental Art Residency Team & participating artists, encouraging students to think out of the box with the material they have at hand. Nurturing creativity, self-expression, reading, writing & discussion all of which are essential to the development of young minds.
With the help of generous donations received in Cash & Material during our last program we were able to equip the Library in Kirmin with 3 desktop PC’s & a Projector to encourage Audio/Visual Learning.
